Mobile Fundraising Client Using Text-To-Donate In PSA During “Extreme Home Makeover”

PATH – People Attempting to Help, a nonprofit in Tyler,Texas is running a PSA this Sunday night as part of the Extreme Home Makeover broadcast.  The show features a family in East Texas who faced tremendous hardship with their home prior to being selected by Extreme Home Makeover.  To draw attention to the hardship many face in their community, PATH was selected to have a PSA broadcast during the pre-show that talks about their work in the community, specifically addressing housing issues.

It is too bad that Extreme Home Makeover is just that — extreme. In light of the needs of many and new-found prudence in American consumption, it would be refreshing if they built houses that are right-sized, family-friendly, and adequate. Instead, they are over-the-top. What we really need to address housing needs in this country is affordable, attractive options — not extreme options. OK — so this is done for TV — but it is a powerful message and medium that could be used to this end. Good luck anyway with your campaign.

It appears the producers of the show have been sensing and feeling your same sentiments.

“I think our hearts were in the right place, but we just got carried way. It can be extreme without being the biggest house you’ve ever seen.” That’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition interior designer Tracy Hutson explaining the ABC reality show’s new directive to the Wall Street Journal.”

Here’s a link below to more information about the changes they are making to address just what you brought up.
